Amy Hsu-Tzu Chen

Amy is a London-based Taiwanese mixed-media textiles artist specialising in handcrafting imaginative vessels and tactile landscapes inspired by women, nature, and life herself.

Constantly guided by a sensitivity to her emotions and subconscious mind, her creative process is an intuitive adventure of translating the changing seasons of her inner garden into vessels of abstract landscapes. When conjuring ideas, she enjoys experimenting with a wide range of materials utilising various handcrafting techniques that include coiling, patching, embroidery, tufting and felting.

Through her creations, characterised by their abstract and eccentric essence, she aims to spark imaginationand propose a poetic way of sensing, perceiving and living that embraces the mysteries of the unseen, the embodiment of feminine energy, and the enchantment of Mother Nature.

Material: wool, wire
Dimensions: 40cm x 40cm x 20cm
Description: Interactive Textiles Installation

“Earth” is a textiles installation that interprets the globe in an intentionally imaginative way, deliberately obscuring the borders of countries. This interactive artwork is designed to bring together individuals from diverse backgrounds and ethnicities who find themselves in London for various reasons.

Visitors are invited to participate by using the provided paper and yarns. They can locate their hometowns on the installation and share personal feelings and memories about their origins or their concept of “home.” By tying strings from designated devices and attaching their heartfelt messages to these strings, participants contribute to a collective tapestry of stories.

“Earth” serves as both a celebration of diverse voices and a profound reflection on our varied perceptions of “home.” This installation not only highlights the richness of different cultural backgrounds but also fosters a sense of unity and shared humanity among all who partake in this unique experience.
